Mechanical Engineering : Scope, Career Prospects, Demand
Aug 26, 2009 Scope and Prospects
Mechanical Engineering finds application in all fields of technology. It is one of the primitive branches of Engineering which have remained always in demand and continue to be in the future. This is why Mechanical trade is called as an Evergreen trade (branch). Mechanical engineers have always been needed as an essential staff personnel in various industries of both public and private sector. Their work criteria changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with.As the Industrial sector has drastically risen in pace, the need for more mechanical engineers has increased exponentially. Every manufacturing and production industry needs mechanical engineers to carry out jobs efficiently and flawlessly for their companies.
Working Domain of Mechanical Engineers:
As the Working criteria of a mechanical Engineer changes according to the type and domain of the company they are working with and field of specialisation we can broadly say that a mechanical Engineer works how to Design and control a system that goes into the process of manufacturing the machinery and product. He tests new systems for feasibility and efficiency and carries out Quality management and improvement process.
Mechanical engineers work in the automotive, aerospace, chemical, computer, communication, paper, and power generation industries.
Mechanical engineers will be found in virtually any manufacturing industry. Increasingly, mechanical engineers are needed in the environmental and bio-medical fields. Indeed virtually every product or service in modern life has probably been touched in some way by a mechanical engineer.
What is there to study:
Mechanical Engineers have to study a whole lot of physics, Engineering drawing, machine drawing and many more concepts such as
- Statics
- Dynamics
- Kinematics
- Strength of Materials
- Materials Science
- Theory of Machines
- Thermodynamics
- Fluid Mechanics
- Heat Transfer
- Manufacturing
- Machine Design
- Electrical Circuits
- Laboratory Methods
- Vibrations
- Engineering Economics
- Metallurgy
- Manufacturing Process.
- Computer Aided Design/ Drafting (CAD)
- Automobile Engineering
- Industrial Automation and
Robotics
Pay Scale: Although Pay Scales are dependent on the type of organization you are selected in. A small and medium industries or companies hire Mechanical Engineers starting Rs 15,000/- to 20,000/- per month. Large companies such as L&T and several other MNCs give a package of Rs 15000/- to Rs 35000/- per month to fresh Mechanical graduates.
Career Scope and Placement Prospects:
It has a tremendous scope in automobile engineering, cement industry, steel, power sector, Hydraulics, Manufacturing plants, Drilling and mining Industry, Petroleum, Aeronautical, Biotechnology and many more. With its wide scope of application, mechanical engineers remain always in demand, no matter which part of the world. You can also find job very easily in the following public sector industries such as Indian Railways, Indian Air force (Technical), Indian Army, Thermal power corporations etc…

hello there
i recently secured a rank in aieee
they have offered me biotechnology in nit-warangal . basically i am very good at physics . so,is it better to go there or to do mechanics or electronics in my home city.what are my career options if i choose to take biotechnology.i came to know that the remuneration after b.tech in biotech is very low.”so,please tell me what is the correct option for me either to choose nit or mechanical in normal college

its good to be creative and drawing is also the language of engineers but it is never necessary to have these for mechanical engineer even by cramming basic laws and doing practicals u can be a successful engineer
June 8th, 2011 at 11:55 am
well first of all its not appropriate to compare two different streams..secondly mechanical branch does not depend only on physics..there are many more subjects which u have to cover during the course..
also biotech has very good scope i near future..but u need to go for it only if u r ready for research work .
June 8th, 2011 at 12:02 pm
nikhil u need not to worry about ur mechanical drawing..i assure u that by the time you complete ur btech u will be knowing enough drawing required in industries..
and yeah the answer to ur second question is u can be aa successful mech engineer as dese days many softwares are available which r automated so they ease down ur work ..

July 27th, 2011 at 12:32 pm
after mech which is best aeronautical or mba???
August 1st, 2011 at 9:23 pm
i don’t think so, its tougher than i myself thought when i joined it. i had 83% score in cbse. But today i m finding it difficult. I think trades like mech, chemical and petrochemical should be opted only by +90 scorers. It involves a lot of physics(in all semester-as all subject are physics based), mathematics in almost 6 semesters.
August 1st, 2011 at 9:31 pm
sorry if you dont know i must tell you that som1,som2,at1,at2,fluidmechanics,and others…almost 90% of the subjects are deep study of physics in itself. if a subject does not use physics as name does not mean it aint real world physics. mechanical engineering is deep study and implementation of physics. Machine designing in itself is not as easy as it looks while attending md-2 lectures. in real life you have to use formula’s taught in subjects like som, tom, at to test the strength and other elements of the die or machine before it is made in reality.

August 29th, 2011 at 8:29 pm
thanxxxxxxxx for motivation
September 21st, 2011 at 3:32 am
mechanical engg.. very tough trade like medical, it’s all about physics, mathematics,engg..drawing and material science and if you are weak in study then you never go with this tarde……IF you choose mechanical engg you parpare to yourself for hard work………….every one knows mechanical is evergreen so most of the peo-pal choose mechanical for better future. some very weak in study they also choose mechanical and they slowly -2 get the b.tech in low %age. but they don’t know it’s very tough competition for jobs in mechanical field.best company’s always pefer top ranked student and give them best salary package. and rest of them low %age student also get a job. (bcos mechanical have huge jobs opportunity for all) but them salary lower then the labor’s salary. Referance by me :-M.E in mechanical
pvt. Designer
