From being a pioneer in 1973, to the role of a trend- setter today, Keltron has been the catalysis for the development of electronics industry in Kerala. The tag line launching a State-owned electronics enterprise, more than a quarter century ago, read “spearheading an electronics revolution in Kerala”. It was an experiment by Government of Kerala to transform the laid-back, picturesque Kerala State known for its spices, natural beauty, Kathakali and the Onam boat races, to an arena for industrial and technological development.

Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), one of the foremost laboratories in the family of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research was formally inaugurated on August 26, 1950 by Dr. B.C. Ray, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal in presence of eminent personalities : Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, Prof. C.V. Raman, Dr. Meghnad Saha and others. Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar was then Director-General of CSIR while Dr. Atma Ram was Director of the Institute. CGCRI, initially conceived as Central Glass and Silicate Research Institute along with NPL-New Delhi, NCL-Pune and CFRI-Dhanbad (now CIMFR) is among the first four CSIR laboratories planned in the pre-independence era.

IIT Delhi is an autonomous statutory organisation functioning within the "Institutes of Technology Act" as amended by "The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963". The seven Indian Institutes of Technology (others being at Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Guwahati Roorkee) are administered centrally by the IIT Council, an apex body established by the Government of India to co-ordinate activities of these Institutes. The Minister for Human Resource Development of the Government of India is the Chairman of the Council. Each Institute of Technology has a Board of Governors responsible for its overall administration and control. Mr. Rameshwar Pal Agrawal is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of this Institute.
