CSIR-CECRI scientists work on a gamut of research problems covering all facets of Electrochemical Science and Technology: Corrosion Science and Engineering, Electrochemical Materials Science, Functional Materials and Nanoscale Electrochemistry, Electrochemical Power Sources, Electrochemical Pollution Control, Electrochemicals, Electrodics and Electrocatalysis, Electrometallurgy, Electroplating & Industrial Metal Finishing, etc.
IIT Kharagpur started its journey in the old Hijli Detention Camp where some of our great freedom fighters toiled and sacrificed their lives for the independence of our country. The history of IIT Kharagpur is thus intimately linked with the history of the Hijli Detention Camp. This is possibly one of the very few Institutions all over the world which started life in a prison house.

IIT Delhi is an autonomous statutory organisation functioning within the "Institutes of Technology Act" as amended by "The Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, 1963". The seven Indian Institutes of Technology (others being at Bombay, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Guwahati Roorkee) are administered centrally by the IIT Council, an apex body established by the Government of India to co-ordinate activities of these Institutes. The Minister for Human Resource Development of the Government of India is the Chairman of the Council. Each Institute of Technology has a Board of Governors responsible for its overall administration and control. Mr. Rameshwar Pal Agrawal is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of this Institute.
